Background

Altered/Space was founded in 2019 by Michael Brown and Mark Rebbeck, each with over 25 years of experience in the Commercial Property sector.

Having worked together for 10 years at one of Northern Ireland’s largest property companies, Altered/Space was set up with the primary goal to deliver positive change in the built environment, focusing on mixed-use urban regeneration projects through hands-on development and asset management. Collaboration is a cornerstone of what Altered/Space are about having worked successfully with Private Investors, Local Authorities and Community Stakeholders for the past 5 years to repurpose and reposition key town centre assets.

Prior to Altered/Space, Michael gained 12 years' experience in the commercial banking sector, before joining the MAR Group of Companies in 2010 as CEO, overseeing the management, funding and strategic planning of a diverse property portfolio spread across the UK & Ireland.

Mark worked as a senior development surveyor with Multi, working on the delivery of Victoria Square Shopping Centre as part of a wider £320m regeneration project in Belfast. Prior to this Mark gained valuable experience with KPMG’s Real Estate Management Consultancy team and as a Development Surveyor with Dunloe Ewart plc before joining the MAR Group in 2009 as Development Director.

Mark is a Chartered Surveyor who initially trained as an architect. He has over 25 years experience working in the property industry, primarily in the fields of property development and asset management. He has a passion for urban regeneration and a desire to ensure our traditional high streets and urban centres thrive and are sustainable in the future.

Mark has extensive experience of delivering mixed use schemes in towns and cities across the UK; and of working collaboratively with both public and private bodies. A tree-lover, he also sits on the board of Portaferry Regeneration Limited.

Michael has extensive background in property finance, having worked for 12 years in the world of Commercial Banking. He has a further 9 years experience as CEO of a large NI-based property group before setting up Altered/Space.

A strategic thinker, Michael combines a knowledge of business planning with a passion for people and placemaking. Finding creative solutions through collaboration and a strong work ethic are at the core of his approach. Michael is also a keen sports fan and family man.
